Connecticut Firefighters Rescue Man in House Fire
The injured man was located on the second floor of the home and taken to a local hospital, Jackson said. The man was unconscious when he was pulled from the fire, but came to in the ambulance. The extent of his injuries were not immediately clear.
Jackson said the second floor of the home was heavily damaged. The home sustained smoke damage throughout and is uninhabitable.
"There was very heavy smoke throughout," Jackson said. "Couldn't see anything at all; the second floor was fully charged with smoke."
The entire East Haven Fire Department responded to the scene at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to a dispatcher for the department. Firefighters from Branford and North Branford responded as mutual aid.
The fire was first reported by a passerby, Jackson said.
"My guys did a good job and that passerby, too," Jackson said. "That was an excellent report, the call did not come from a house, it was before a neighbor even saw. It came from someone just driving down the street."
The fire was under control shortly before 2:30 p.m.
Burr Street will remain closed while crews clean up and investigate.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is believed to be accidental, Jackson said.
